Tata Power plans overseas projectsTata Power Ltd, a leading Indian power company, is bidding to set up 10 power projects in foreign markets like Bangladesh, the Middle East and Africa, a business daily said on Thursday. "We have already been pre-qualified for five of the 10 projects and are awaiting the result for five more," a business newspaper quoted Tata Power Managing Director Adi Engineer as saying. The paper said Engineer declined to give details of the projects for "strategic reasons" but said they included both thermal and hydro-electric power projects. Tata Power supplies electricity to Bombay and is a part of the Rs 360-billion Tata group. It also has interests in oil exploration and the liquefied natural gas and broadband sectors. The paper also said that Tata Power has acquired the transmission towers business of group company Tata International, which is developing projects in Nepal, Thailand and Bangladesh. "The transmission towers business will give us a good base in developing countries as well as India," the paper quoted Engineer as saying. Tata Power shares fell 0.54 per cent on Wednesday to close at Rs 120.75.
