Kinetic plans launch of 6 bikes in 15 months

Suresh R Menon

Pune-based Kinetic Engineering plans to launch six new bikes covering the economy, performance and combination segments during the next 15 months.

They would include two high-technology models from the GF series designed and developed in collaboration with Hyosung of Korea and all these six bikes would be within the price range of Rs 40,000 to Rs 55,000.

KEL managing director Arun Pande said one of them would be a 100cc deluxe model for city use. The second would be an economical and functional 100cc bike typically for the rural markets and the third one would be a 125cc performance-oriented model.

Besides, there would be two 150cc versions in the GF series, out of which one would be the power version and the other a street version, he said.

Calling the sixth model a surprise bike he said, "It will definitely have some very novel and unique features. However, I cannot reveal any more details about this model as we would like to retain the surprise element till it is launched."

Pande, who was here to formally launch Kinetic Challenger -- a 100cc 4-stroke bike -- in the Gujarat market, said, "I foresee this feature-packed Challenger garnering a significant market share and selling over 100,000 motorcycles nationally during the very first year ending March 31, 2002."

According to Pande, in Gujarat alone KEL hopes to sell 12,000 units of Challenger during the current year. It has generated very favourable response from the customers because of its stylish design, rugged looks and excellent economy.

Offering 70 km per litre mileage, Challenger is today the most fuel efficient vehicle in this range in the country, he claimed.

On other plans of the company, Pande said during the current year KEL would be appointing 600 new sub-dealers, thereby increasing its sub-dealer network in the country to about 1,600 from the current 1,000 level.
