Naresh Narad acting CMD of ONGC

BS Energy Editor

Naresh Narad, additional secretary in the petroleum ministry, will hold additional charge of acting chairman and managing director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation from Tuesday.

According to an official order issued on Monday, Narad will hold the additional charge for three months or till the appointment of a regular chairman, 'whichever is early'.

The post is falling vacant following the superannuation of B C Bora, the current chairman of ONGC.

As per the interviews held by the Public Enterprises Selection Board for the post, Subir Raha, director (human resources), is the leading candidate for the post followed by I N Chatterjee, finance director of ONGC.

Meanwhile, former Gas Authority of India Ltd chairman C R Prasad is joining British Gas as its non-executive chairman in India. Prasad, who retired from GAIL on January 31, 2001, is expected to take charge on Wednesday, industry sources said.

The tenure of J K Jain, the acting chairman of GAIL for three months after Prasad's retirement, is learnt to have been extended by another three months.

Jain's earlier tenure ended on Monday.

The sources also said that Prashant Banerjee, executive director of western region of Indian Oil Corporation, who had been selected earlier as the leading candidate for the GAIL chairman's post but had failed to get it because of some controversy surrounding the selection process, is now PESB's leading candidate for the post of marketing director of IOC.

P K Aggarwal, director planning of Oil Coordination Committee has been selected as the other candidate in the panel drawn up by PESB, the sources said.

For the post of pipelines director of IOC, PESB has selected A M Uplenchwar, executive director in the pipelines division of IOC, as the leading candidate and P S Rao, executive director of Gujarat Refinery, as the second candidate, sources said.
