Lift sanctions against India immediately, urges Sen BrownbackRepublican Senator Sam Brownback has urged the Bush Administration to lift the sanctions against India saying that the measures stood in the way of expansion of Indo-US relations. Speaking at a CII luncheon in honour of Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Washington on Thursday, Brownback said that the Bush Administration was waiting for the right time to lift the sanctions. "But so far as I am concerned, the right time is now. Do it now. It is well past the hour," the Senator, who is also a leading member of the India Caucus group, said. "The sanctions stand in the way of the expanding relationship between India and the United States. They do not make sense, they do not work, and it is time to get them over, and get them over today," he reiterated. "We are still thinking in terms of the Cold War," he said. "But the Cold War is over. We have to structure new relationships between India and the US," he said.
