Satyam Computer's Ramalinga Raju bereaved

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Byrraju Satyanarayana Raju, a pioneering agriculturist-turned-industrialist, died after a brief illness at a hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening.

Satyanarayana Raju, 74, is survived by wife, a daughter and three sons, B Ramalinga Raju (chairman, Satyam Computer Services Limited), B Rama Raju and B Suryanarayana Raju.

Satyanarayana Raju was hospitalised for lung infection a week back, but could not recover.

Born in an elite family in Gangaparru in West Godavari district in 1927, Satyanarayana Raju was a successful agriculturist. He shifted his base to Hyderabad and set up an industrial group which included textiles and construction. He also pursued agriculture despite his interests in business.

In a condolence message, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the demise of Satyanarayana Raju. "His demise is a great loss to the farmers' cause and the business world," Naidu said and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members. The cremation will take place on Friday evening.
