Bharti to launch NLD service on August 1

BS ICE Bureau

Bharti Telesonic will start its first national long distance service between Hyderabad and Vijayawada on August 1.

The company received the letter of intent to start the service from the Department of Telecommunication on Tuesday.

This was announced in Hyderabad by IB Mehra, chief executive of Bharti Mobile while launching the roaming facility for the pre-paid card subscribers of Airtel.

Bharti Telesonic, as part of its NLD project, plans to connect over 200 cities in the next two to three years through an optic fibre network of 30,000 km.

For the first time, Airtel in Andhra Pradesh has launched roaming facility for its pre-paid card subscribers.

"Though roaming is available to the post-paid cellular subscribers for some time now, this is the first instance of launching the facility for the pre-paid segment in the country," claimed IB Mehra at a press conference.

The service is being offered to Magic subscribers without any deposit. Air time is charged at Rs 11.50 per 30 seconds pulse. "We will soon launch the facility in Andhra, Karnataka and Madras and form a golden triangle," Tushar Maheswari, general marketing (marketing) of the company said.

Bharti Mobile has also launched a new scheme called Dream Plan for the post-paid segment under which the monthly rental is charged at Rs 295 and air time at Rs 2.20 for 30 seconds.

Airtel currently has presence in 42 towns in AP and chalked out a roadmap to expand to 65 towns by August 15.
