Rs 700-billion small savings collected in 1999-2000

Savings to the tune of Rs 700 billion was collected by the National Small Savings Organisation during 1999-2000, according to deputy national savings commissioner S K Tripathi.

Of this, Pondicherry contributed Rs 600 million, he told reporters after calling on Lt Governor Rajani Rai.

He said Rs 400 million had been drawn by the government as loan.

Nearly 500,000 agents were engaged in the country as a whole and a training programme for field staff was being implemented to get them ready to face the newer aspects of savings mobilisation activities.
