Scope for Indo-US tie-ups in entertainment sector seen

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Sushma Swaraj, said Tuesday, Indian and US industry could come together to meet the growing demands of the entertainment sector.

"There can be collaborations, co-production and foreign direct investment," she said in her keynote address at the US-India Business Dialogue in Washington.

Swaraj, who is heading a 35-member FICCI delegation, said constant dialogue and interactions between the Indo-US business communities became very relevant in the context of the vast potential of deriving synergies.

"We can learn a lot from US expertise in technology and at the same time offer highly trained software personnel. We can provide unexplored scenic shooting locales and a state-of-the-art post-production facilities," Swaraj said, adding that she looked forward to a number of co-productions in films between India and the US.

India could learn a lot from the US in the field of digital technology and animation films, she said, adding that another area of vast potential was of theatres and mutliplexes.

She pointed out that India had an average of only 12 theatres per million people as compared to the 116 theatres per million in the US.

Swaraj said the knowledge trade initiative should serve as a bilateral initiative between the business communities of India and the US to set an agenda for policy formulation and action at both national and international level.
