Alcatel to build next generation network for VSNL

Alcatel has won a multi-million dollar contract to set up a new network that will facilitate the implementation of fixed line voice and data services by Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited.

VSNL will deploy the Alcatel 7470 Multiservice Platform, part of a family of broadband switching products. The project will be completed within the next six months.

''This is the first multi-service ATM infrastructure network to be installed by Alcatel in India. We look forward to more such contracts in the near future,'' commented Michel Vetil, managing director, Alcatel India.

Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 130,000 employees and sales of euro 31 billion in 2000, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries.

With close to 800 employees in India, Alcatel has a manufacturing facility at Gurgaon as well as software development centres in Bangalore, Madras and Gurgaon.

Alcatel is a major player in telecommunications and the Internet with world leadership positions in high-speed access and optical networks.
