Infosys dislodges Wipro from No 2 exporter

India's leading software company Infosys Technologies has displaced Wipro Ltd from the position of the country's second largest software exporter, rankings released by a leading industry body showed.

The rankings of the National Association of Software and Service Companies released on Thursday showed that Infosys' exports at Rs 18.53 billion ($393.82 million) in 2000-01 (April-March) were higher than Wipro's Rs 17.56 billion.

In 1999-2000, Wipro was ranked as the second largest software exporter.

The New York Stock Exchange-listed Wipro was, however, ranked by NASSCOM as India's second largest software company in terms of total revenues. Its revenues of Rs 19.66 billion were higher than Infosys' revenues of Rs 18.54 billion.

The leader of the pack continued to be unlisted Tata Consultancy Services, which led by a wide margin in both categories. TCS posted total revenues of Rs 31.42 billion while its export revenues amounted to Rs 28.70 billion.

TCS is a division of Tata Sons, the main holding company of the country's largest private conglomerates the Tata group.
