Airtel hikes charges on incoming callsBS ICE Bureau Airtel on Monday announced its new tariff package for cellular subscribers under which rentals, airtime charges on outgoing calls and commitment value have been reduced. It has, however, hiked airtime charges on incoming calls. The Bharti Group-promoted Airtel's tariff is now more or less identical to Essar's, which had effected a tariff-cut on Saturday. Airtel has also launched a new entry-level tariff package called 'The Dream Plan', available at a monthly rental of Rs 295, which is Rs 100 less than the minimum rental of Rs 395 available currently. For Dream Plan, Airtel has brought down the outgoing tariff from Rs 2.60 per minute to Rs 2.30 and increased the tariff on incoming calls from Rs 1.80 to Rs 2.30. It has also brought down the security deposit from Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,500. Sanjay Kapoor, chief executive officer, Bharti cellular, said: "Lower rentals, coupled with affordable rates and a lower entry cost, are variables which, as per our research, should lead to an exponential growth in the market." Airtel also launched the 'Sweet99' plan, bringing down airtime tariffs to Rs 1.98 for both incoming and outgoing calls, while charging a monthly rental of Rs 395. The 'Talkers Delight' package has been revised to bring down airtime tariffs for outgoing calls to Rs 1.48 per minute from Rs 2.35 and increase incoming tariffs from Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.48. Commitment amount has also been brought down from Rs 1,000 to Rs 800. For customers of the Perfect Match package, commitment value has been brought down from Rs 400 to Rs 300. Airtime tariffs will be Rs 1.78 per minute for both incoming and outgoing calls as compared to the earlier tariffs of Rs 1.50 per minute for incoming and Rs 2.75 for outgoing calls.
