Aaj Tak claims leadership among all channels

Aroon Purie-promoted 24-hour news channel 'Aaj Tak' on Friday claimed leadership among all news channels, including both Zee News and Star News, in terms of prime time viewership, channel share and time spent per channel.

For the week ended May 19, Aaj Tak claims 43 and 41 per cent channel share in full day and prime time periods respectively among all news channels. Zee follows with 31 and 33 per cent share and Star News is third at 15 and 16 per cent share respectively.

Quoting market research agency TAM, the company on Friday claimed the maximum viewership of 307,000 against 189,000 for Zee News and a mere 85,000 for Star News.

Also, news viewers have been spending about 44 minutes per day in watching this channel against 28 minutes per day of Zee and 18 minutes for Star News, the channel said in a statement in New Delhi.

The release issued by Aaj Tak further stated that the comparative viewership of news channels shows Aaj Tak in a commanding position, especially in the afternoon and evening prime time.

"The maximum viewership of Aaj Tak reached a figure of 130,000, on a weekly average, in comparison to 98,000 of Zee News and 55,000 of Star News, on a weekly average," the statement said.

"Aaj Tak has established itself as the most preferred news channel among Indian audience. According to the latest TAM reports, Aaj Tak has taken the top slot among all news channels with its prime time viewership, channel share, time spent per channel overtaking that of Zee News and Star News," the channel said in a statement.

"The channel share of Aaj Tak goes up even further to 50 per cent for Hindi speaking markets," the statement said.
