Digvijay Singh is minister of state for commerce

Digvijay Singh on Tuesday took charge as minister of state for commerce and industry, ten days after he was shifted from the railway ministry.

Singh succeeds Omar Abdullah who has joined as the minister of state for external affairs.

He represents the Lok Sabha constituency of Banka in Bihar and belongs to Janata Dal (Samata).

Educated at Patna University and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Singh has served on various committees including the consultative committee of the ministry of external affairs in 1998-99 and as member, committee on rules and committee on defence during 1990-96.

He had served as Union deputy minister in the ministry of finance and ministry of external affairs during 1990-91.
