Tata Teleservices to invest more in Andhra

Basic telephone services provider Tata Teleservices said on Friday it will invest Rs 5 billion ($106.1 million) over the next six months in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to extend its network. Tata Teleservices, which is part of the Tata group, one of India's largest conglomerates, said in a statement this will take its total investment in the state to Rs16 billion.

The firm, which has a licence to provide basic telephone services in Andhra Pradesh, is among a handful of private companies in a sector that was under state monopoly until recently.

Tata Teleservices plans to expand its coverage in the state by installing over 1,000 kilometres of optical fibre cables linking Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Guntur, Vishakapatnam, Nellore and Tirupathi.

It also said it will expand its wireless coverage in Hyderabad and Vijaywada cities.
