HLL to revamp foods business

BS Corporate Bureau

FMCG major Hindustan Lever has decided to restructure its foods business. As part of the strategy, the company will be relaunching the flagship brand, Kissan Annapurna, shortly in the market. Currently, the brand has a presence in the atta and salt segments. Following the acquisition of International Bestfoods, the company has decided to phase out Captain Cook brand of atta and salt to avoid cannibalisation with its existing portfolio.

HLL's foods business declined by 7.3 per cent in the first half of the current year, while the drop in sales of power brands in the segment was lower at 3.3 per cent.

Relating to the new growth engines, the company has started test marketing its Max brand of candies in the south. Tea sales declined by 15 per cent in line with market dynamics even as phasing out of non-value brands/packs continued.

Coffee sales, however, recorded a strong growth. Other food categories posted a marginal growth of 1.7 per cent, while ice cream sales were flat.
