Wipro wins $70-mn contract from UK firm

Indian software services giant Wipro Ltd has won a $70 million contract from a telecom firm, a company spokeswoman said on Friday.

A company statement later said the contract was for a telecom subsidiary of UK-based utility Lattice Group Plc.

The statement quoted chairman Azim Premji as saying the project will generate revenue in excess of $30 million in the current financial year, though largely in the October-March second half.

"Looking ahead, we currently believe that we will continue to grow ahead of the industry growth rates," he said.

"With the Lattice group project win, we expect our growth to increase in the second half of this fiscal year," he said.

Wipro earlier announced net profit increased 97 per cent in April-June from a year earlier to Rs 2.14 billion.

The results came before market hours.

On Thursday, Wipro's shares fell 1.06 per cent to Rs 1,365.20.
