Contempt rap against banking secretary

The Supreme Court has issued show cause notice to secretary (banking division) in the finance ministry on a contempt petition filed by All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association for allegedly ignoring the Apex Court order on parity of wages in public sector banks.

A division bench comprising Justice G B Pattanaik and Justice Ruma Pal in a recent order directed the banking secretary to file his reply by August 20, the next date of hearing.

"We are prima facie of the view that the directions of this court have not been complied with," the Bench observed saying the reply should explain why proceedings for contempt of court should not be initiated against him.
