Amitabh Kumar to head Zee's technology division

Raksha Hegde & Anjan Mitra

Zee Network has roped in the former director (operations) of Videsh Sanchar Nigam, Amitabh Kumar, as the head of its technology division. Kumar will be in charge of the media network's satellite and uplinking operations.

Confirming the development, a senior Zee official told Business Standard: "Kumar will be joining the group as head of our technology and infrastructure areas." Kumar was not available for comment. Kumar, who has been with VSNL for over two decades and had officiated as the acting chairman and managing director, left the organisation under controversial circumstances in early June this year.

He has been chargesheeted by the Department of Telecommunications for alleged financial and administrative irregularities from the Central Vigilance Commission.

In the last few months, Zee Network has seen some new recruitment in the top management. Sandeep Goyal, formerly the president of advertising agency Rediffusion Y&R, had been inducted as the Zee group broadcasting CEO in May.

The media conglomerate's education arm, Zee Interactive Learning Systems, is now without its head as president and chief executive officer Uma Ganesh has stepped down from the post last week. Dilip Mahapatra, who was the earlier head of the ZILS branches, has been taken in Ganesh's position.
