DPC chief McGregor to quit companyUS energy major Enron Corporation-promoted Dabhol Power Company's president and chief executive officer Neil McGregor has decided against renewing his contract with the company, even as its disputes with the Maharashtra State Electricity Board remain unresolved. "My contract expired on June 30, 2001. I have decided against its renewal and will now pursue other challenges elsewhere in the global utility sector, which is my area of expertise," McGregor said in Bombay on Tuesday. "It is true that the project has had a difficult time since its inception...but one has to move on in life...it was a difficult decision to make," the former DPC president said. McGregor, who hails from New Zealand, was instrumental in ushering in the troubled project's 1,444 mw phase-II and also the plant's initial operations. "I have put all my efforts in DPC and done exactly what the management wanted me to do and I have also stayed beyond my contract, especially for chairman Kenneth Lay's visit." When asked about his next assignment, McGregor said he would soon leave for Singapore, where he had earlier spent a year with Enron Corp before joining DPC, and then explore the opportunities available in the overseas market. Enron India managing director K Wade Cline said: "Neil has made many contributions to the Dabhol organisation. He has led DPC through the construction and initial operation of one of the world's premier power generation facilities." YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO READ:
