FICCI demands opening of Wagah border for Indo-Pak trade

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has demanded opening of the Wagah border at Amritsar to facilitate trade between India and Pakistan.

FICCI president Chirayu Amin, who is also the president of the India-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said on Monday that there was also an urgent need for infrastructure development in the two, countries.

He hoped that Pakistan would extend the Most Favoured Nation status to India since India had given the status to Pakistan in 1995.

The bilateral trade between India and Pakistan was governed by Pakistan's restricted list of imports which needed to be revised, he said adding that I-PCCI was formed by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and FICCI during Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's historic bus trip to Lahore, to boost trade relations between the two countries.

Amin also expressed hope that the proposed Indo-Pak summit would boost business between the two countries.
