KBC, best TV show of the year

Kaun Banega Crorepati was adjudged the best show of the year with its anchor Amitabh Bachahan taking the best TV personality of the year award at the first Indian Telly Awards-2001, at a glittering ceremony in Bombay on Friday night.

Star channel CEO Peter Mukherjea won laurels for the best TV CEO. Best channel of the year award was bagged by DD Metro while Balaji Telefilms took the best production house award.

The Indian Telly awards were conceived as a way of rewarding professionals behind the scenes, Indiantelevision.com CEO and the organiser of the event Anil Wanvari said while describing the idea behind the constitution of awards.

"In its first edition the awards are limited to 17 categories," Wanvari said.

The other winners include marketing executive of the year: Mubina Ansari (Star), ad sales executive of the year: Raj Nayak (Star News), distribution executive of the year: Arun Mohan (Star), programming executive of the year: Sameer Nair (Star), best comedy show of the year: Tu Tu Main Main (Star Plus), best continuing TV show: Movers and Shakers (SET), current affairs programme: Hard Talk India (BBC), best promoted TV event: Helen Golden Girl (Channel Nine), best marketing activity: launch of Kaun Banega Crorepati (Star Plus).
