Tata Tea GM lynched by workers in Assam

The group general manager of Tata Tea was on Monday clubbed to death by irate tea garden labourers after he allegedly opened fire and injured seven of them following an argument over payment of bonus near Sibsagar township in Upper Assam.

Harpreet Singh Maan fired seven rounds from his revolver in "self defence" injuring seven labourers, the police said. Subsequently, angry workers overpowered him and beat him to death with lathis. He died on the spot.

Fifteen labourers have been arrested in this connection and the seven injured workers have been admitted to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.
