Bajaj Auto says June sales down 6%

Bajaj Auto Ltd, one of India's leading two-wheeler makers, said on Monday its June sales fell 6 per cent over the same month last year while production rose 11 per cent.

Figures released on its website www.bajajauto.com showed the firm's sales in June totalled 98,000 units compared to 104,000 a year ago.

Production rose to 111,000 units compared to 100,000.

Bajaj Auto is India's largest scooter maker and second largest motorcycle maker.

The numbers include completely knocked down units supplied to group firm Maharashtra Scooters Ltd, it said.

Bajaj said April-June sales fell four percent to 313,000 units while production fell three percent to 318,000.

Bajaj's shares were down Rs 5.60 at Rs 254 at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Monday morning deals, while the Sensex was up 0.66 per cent.
