Nasscom to name Dewang Mehta's successor on Monday

Imran Qureshi in Bangalore

A successor to Dewang Mehta, India's information technology evangelist who headed the National Association of Software and Service Companies, will be announced on August 6.

"We are in the final stages of selecting the new head of Nasscom and it will be announced Monday," said Nasscom chairman Phiroz Vandrevala.

The selection of the president of Nasscom has been delayed considerably "because it is very difficult to find a successor to Dewang Mehta," a senior member of the Nasscom told IANS on the sidelines of the e-biz conference, organised by the Nasscom.

"We may not put the entire onus on the new president but, perhaps, have a team working along with him to take care of various functions which Dewang so successfully managed," the member said.

Dewang Mehta died in his sleep in Sydney, Australia, on April 12.
