Forex reserves at a record $42.765 billion

India's foreign currency reserves continued to surge ahead with further inflows of $43 million to $42.765 billion for the week ending April 20, 2001.

The foreign currency assets were also up by $43 million in the reporting week taking the total to $40.030 billion, according to Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement.

The foreign currency assets expressed in the US dollar terms include the effect of appreciation/depreciation of non-US currencies such as euro, sterling and yen.

Gold reserves and special drawing rights were static at $2.725 billion and $10 million, respectively, the RBI said.

Loans and advances by RBI to the central government were down by Rs 191.72 billion at Rs 50.21 billion, while to the state governments it decreased by Rs 18.73 billion to Rs 54.71 billion.
