Dunlop president wants to quit on health ground

The president of Dunlop India Limited, M D Shukla, has expressed his inability to run the ailing company due to failing health for which he is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bangalore.

Sources in Dunlop said that Shukla, who had just returned from Dubai after meeting the company chairman, M R Chhabria, there, had not been keeping well and was complaining of heart problems.

The sources also said that Shukla's meeting with Chhabria was not possibly amicable, adding, however, that this was not the reason for seeking relief from his present responsibilities.

The sources said that Shukla, who had undergone by-pass surgery earlier, is likely to take admission to Manipal Heart Foundation in Bangalore where his son-in-law is a cardiologist.

Shukla had informed of his intentions in a letter written to the Dunlop board.

The Dunlop official had gone to Dubai to post Chhabria about the current status of the company whose future depends on the sanction of the revival package by BIFR.
