Maharashtra trade bandh on April 25

Several trade unions, including the Shiv Sena affiliated ones, will unitedly observe Maharashtra Bandh on April 25, demanding scrapping of 'anti-labour', 'anti-farmer' and 'anti-people' economic policies of the central and state governments.

Addressing the media in Bombay on Tuesday, the trade union joint action committee president Sharad Rao said Maharashtra will come to a standstill on April 25 and the state-wide bandh will be first step in their pro-worker and pro-people movement and against policies of the Central and state governments.

About nine political parties will also be taking part in the bandh, Rao said.

Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena leader, who attended the meeting, said the party will take an active part in the bandh.

The bandh will be supported by the entire working class including banks, insurance sector, farmers, and farm labourers, self employed persons like hawkers, taxi and auto-rickshaw owners and drivers and small traders.

S R Kulkarni, H N Trivedi and Dattaji Salvi were among other trade union leaders present at the press conference.

TUJAC, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, INTUC, CITU, Bank and insurance employees unions will also participate in the bandh, Rao said.
