Smoke masks, resistance bands cookies and more!
CNN's international business correspondent and avid traveller Richard Quest writes about ten essential things one must carry while traveling in this digital age. This is a sneak peek into the article he has written for Conde Nast Traveller's April-May issue.
1. Noise-cancelling headphones
Just don't wear them when you go to the loo. Nothing looks sillier than walking down the aisle wearing those things on your ears.
2. Protein bars
I always pack a few when I travel now. They make for great snacks when the munchies hit.

3. Logitech ultra – thin keyboard for the iPad
With this, I got rid of my laptop. It's robust, great for a keyboard thumper like me, and much better than the ones made of rubber.
4. Adaptors and chargers
Multi-plug adaptor, an Apple charger and one micro USB connector -- with these three I can charge most of my devices.

5. A good read
The Kindle is great, but sometimes I like to read a real book.
6. Resistance bands
I use these exercise tools to work out in my hotel room -- they are great for strengthening the body.

7. Smoke hood
I have had it in my briefcase for years. It may save me if there is a fire and hardly takes up any space.
8. Pouches
I carry lots of them -- for electrical bits and bobs, aspirins, indigestion tablets. Remember the saying -- a place for everything and everything in its place?

9. Cookies
Taken from airport or hotel business lounges and had late at night after making my own hot chocolate or tea; I like a little snackette. Who wants to pay room service prices for a bedtime biscuit?
10. Spare change
For when I need to make a phone call and just in case I lose the big one -- my wallet.
