The tallest statue in the world is in India -- of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Then follow several very tall statues of Lord Buddha in China, Myanmar, Japan, Thailand and other parts of the Buddhist world. India, where Buddhism originated, has a few imposing statues, but they lack height. Buddha statues everywhere stand tall as symbols of peace, wisdom, and enlightenment.

Standing majestically in Zhaocun township of Lushan County, this is the tallest statue of Lord Buddha in the world. A colossal depiction of Vairocana Buddha, the statue rises 128 m or 420 ft, but stands on a 19.3-m or 63-foot lotus throne. It takes its name from the nearby Tianrui hot spring, famed for its healing properties.
Situated amid lush green landscape in Khatakan Taung village, near Monywa, the 115.8 m or 380 ft Laykyun Sekkya Buddha is a symbol of the nation’s deep devotion to Buddhism and was briefly the tallest statue in the world, until Spring Buddha and the Statue of Unity soared past it. Of a standing Gautama Buddha, accompanied by a reclining Buddha, it depicts Mahaparinirvana -- the Buddha’s final passing into Nirvana.
Located in Ibaraki Prefecture, the statue was built to honour the birth of Shinran, the founder of the Jōdo Shinshū (True Pure Land School) of Buddhism. 120 m or 394 feet high, the magnificent bronze depicts Amitabha Buddha, symbolising infinite light and compassion.
Against the fertile greenness of the fields of Ang Thong Province, the Big Buddha, as he is known, shines brilliantly in the sun, all 92 m or 302 ft of him. This is Buddha in the Maravijaya Attitude, a seated posture representing his victory over temptation.
The Grand Buddha of Ling Shan, 79 m or 259 ft tall, located in Mashan Subdistrict, Jiangsu, is a breathtaking bronze depiction of Amitabha Buddha. It weighs over 700 metric tonnes. Completed in 1996, it has since become a significant spiritual and cultural landmark, drawing visitors from all over the world.
In the tranquil Kyaikto in Mon State, is a 77.9 m or 256 ft sitting Buddha, radiating serenity. It was completed in 2019.
