In the 2024-25 Global Best Food Cities list by Taste Atlas, Italian cities took the first four ranks with Naples at the top spot. Mumbai was No 5!
Naples was World No 1. Experience a pizza in the city of its birth, where you must indulge in the iconic Pizza Margherita. It is topped with fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil. Naples is also famous for its gnocchi in tomato sauce and spaghetti cooked with clams.
Visit Milan to sample the city's Risotto alla Milanese, typically made with saffron-infused risotto, beef or veal broth, and served with roasted veal chop. When in Milan try the bread-fried veal cutlet and the fragrant panettone, a sweet bread packed with raisins that is especially popular at Christmas time.
Bologna is world famous for its Tagliatelle al Ragù, a hearty, comforting dish featuring fresh tagliatelle pasta tossed in a rich, slow-cooked beef ragù (tomato-onion sauce) and served up with a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.
Folks flock to Florence for the yummy Bistecca alla Fiorentina, which is a thick, juicy T-bone steak grilled to perfection and served rare. The steak is seasoned with salt, black pepper, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Florence and the Tuscany region is known for Ribolita -- which means re-boiled -- or a comforting soup, had the next day, made from leftovers, seasonal vegetables and white beans.
