Starting February 1, National Payments Corporation of India has enforced a new rule disallowing special characters in UPI transaction IDs. To ensure uninterrupted transactions, follow these steps.
According to NPCI's new regulation, UPI transaction IDs containing special characters, like #, @, $, or *, will be blacklisted. This measure is intended to improve the ease and security of UPI transactions for users.
This will prevent the creation of UPI IDs with strange or indecipherable characters, which can lead to errors or fraudulent activities and protect users from errors during transactions.
Users are advised to make sure that their UPI IDs only contain alphabets, numbers. Nothing that is not part of the 26 alphabets or numerals 0-9.
NPCI is directing all payment providers, including mobile apps and banks, to implement this change by ensuring that their systems reject UPI IDs containing special characters.
If you have a UPI ID with special characters, you should log into your payment app or bank account and update your ID with a simpler version that complies with the new guidelines.
Users who currently have UPI IDs containing restricted characters may experience disruptions in their transactions if these IDs are not updated or revised. Make changes today.
This change aims to streamline the UPI system and ensure that the payment network is more user-friendly and secure with less errors during payments.
