Taste Atlas, the online guide to international food, has ranked Missi Roti, a traditional Punjabi flatbread, as one of the worst foods of India.
The Missi Roti is an unleavened flatbread prepared by combining whole wheat flour, besan (gram flour or chickpea flour), salt, water, with a blend of freshly-ground Indian spices, including red chilly powder, cumin seed powder, carom seed powder, turmeric, coriander, and crushed dry pomegranate seeds.
Missi Roti is known for its distinctive desi flavour and nutritional value. Heathline states that besan is high in protein and fibre and has less calories and antioxidant benefits.
Ajwain or carom seeds or Trachyspermum ammi is also good for blood pressure and cholesterol says Healthline.
Missi Roti is brushed with ghee or oil and served piping hot, with a diverse array of accompaniments, like chutneys, curries, sabzis (mixed vegetable dishes), lentil dishes, pickles, or yoghurt.
Missi Roti holds a significant place in the breakfast routines of north Indian households.
