How To Make Crispy, Hot Pazhampori

Pazhampori or Banana Fritters are a popular tea-time snack in Kerala made from ripe or overripe nendran (long and firm variety) bananas, by roadside or railway station vendors.

Ingredients

  • 1 nendran banana sliced into 4-8 parts
  • ½ cup maida or all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup rice flour
  • Pinch baking soda
  • Pinch turmeric
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tsp sugar, optional
  • Oil for deep frying

Method

  • Make a medium consistency batter with maida, rice flour, salt, soda, haldi and gradually add water.
    Add the sliced bananas and coat well.
    Heat the oil in a frying pan and deep fry the coated bananas over medium heat.
  • Makes two servings. Serve hot with tea, coffee, or a beverage of choice.

Divya's Note:

This deep-fried ethhakka appam or Pazhampori, with its crispy outer and mushy banana stuffing, is best served hot.
Using overripe bananas will make your Pazhampori taste naturally sweet.
