Exclusive: Dishy model turns photographer for Rediff!

Amit Ranjan who walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week this season offers us his view of the glamour world.

Modelling happened quite by chance, says Amit Ranjan, the young model who walked the runway for several designers at the recently-concluded Lakme Fashion Week.

"I casually participated in Gladrags Megamodel Manhunt some years ago and Maureen Wadia (the editor) noticed me. Since then, there has been no looking back," he says.

Ranjan has since then walked the runway for several designers including Manish Malhotra, Rocky S, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Rohit Bal, Narendra Kumar and Raghvendra Rathod among many others.

We handed Amit our camera and let him go click happy!

Models Dayana Erappa (R) and Gazi are friends and share a very warm camaraderie, he says. "They are both very relaxed and easy to get along with. When they saw me with the camera, they happily struck a pose. And what a wonderful picture it turned out to be!"

Amit Ranjan made his Fashion Week debut with Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in 2007 and has since walked the runway for several designers.

He has also appeared in endorsements for Fast Track, Airtel, Mountain Dew and Carlton, London among others. Ranjan shot these pictures for Rediff.com during Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013.

Next we have this candid photograph by Amit Ranjan of Candice Pinto where the model looks as stunning as ever.

Ranjan tells us that he hails from a family of academicians. "I come from a town called Barh in Bihar and travelled to New Delhi for higher education."

Needless to say the decision to become a model didn't go down too well with his parents initially. "In time, they gave in," he says.

Ranjan describes his regular day as a perfect day 'because I enjoy what I do'. When he isn't walking on runways around the country, he likes to spend his time in the gym and with his family.

Things can get pretty stressful not just for the models and designers but also the hair stylists and makeup artists. This young lady here, from Kapil Bhalla's team, takes a break in between hours of work, Ranjan says.

The backstage at Lakme Fashion Week is a well-oiled machine. Show after show, day after day, make-up artistes and hair stylists get models ready in time for designers. Here's yet another picture of Sangya Lakhanpal backstage at LFW.

Patience, they say, is a virtue but one that Alesia Raut has in abundance. The stunning model waits as a hair stylist helps her with her hair and Amit Ranjan takes her picture.
