5 Winter Care Tips For Indoor Plants

Winter can be a challenging time for indoor plants as they are exposed to less sunlight, cooler temperatures, and drier air.

Watering Practices

During winter, many indoor plants don’t grow actively and so require less water than they do in the growing seasons. Over-watering can lead to root rot; it is important to let soil dry out first. Check moisture levels by sticking your finger about an inch into the soil; if it feels dry, it’s time to water.

Increase Humidity

Using heaters at home can cause the air to become dry, which can be harmful for your plants. Increase humidity by placing a humidifier near your plants or you can also place a tray of water near the plants or mist them occasionally.

Provide Adequate Light

With shorter daylight hours, your plants may not be getting the sufficient light they require. Move them closer to windows where they can receive more natural light and keep them away from cool winds. Rotate your plants regularly to ensure even light distribution.

Maintain Optimal Temperatures

Most indoor plants prefer temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. Try to maintain this temperature and avoid placing near heaters or in dark and cool areas.

Clean The Leaves

Dust can accumulate on the leaves of indoor plants, reducing their ability to photosynthesise and absorb light. Gently wipe down the leaves with a damp cloth or provide your plants with a shower to keep them clean and healthy.
