Children with shyness commonly lack confidence. As parents/guardians, employ methods to help your son/daughter conquer their diffidence to develop into more confident individuals.
Whenever you go for a child-appropriate social function, attempt to have your child to interact with peers, while you are there for support. Arrange playdates, enroll them in group activities, encourage participation in team sports.
Know your child better and identify their unique talents. Motivate them. Assist him/her in building confidence in themselves and believe that they are capable of doing everything.
Children often learn by observing their parents. Exhibit confident behaviour socially. Show them how to introduce themselves and engage in conversation. Your example will serve as a powerful lesson to them.
Consider giving small incentives whenever they speak up in class, ask questions, and express their feelings appropriately or take part in debate competitions. Positive reinforcement can work on their confidence and make them keep trying.
Importantly, understand that shyness is a natural feeling. Forcing your child into uncomfortable situations can increase their anxiety. But encourage them to do little things like choosing their own clothes, toys or ordering their own food in a restaurant.
