Sudipto Basu from Kolkata shares his story:

I was born and brought up in the city of Kolkata while she stayed far away from the maddening urban crowd, in a quiet half hamlet outside the district.

Like destiny’s children, Dipanwita and I waited for each other for the right time.

My marriage negotiations started in 2008.

My mother left no stone unturned to choose the best bride for me.

She called up marriage bureaus, placed advertisements in newspapers, registered with multiple web portals besides looking for prospective proposals in her family and friend circles.

A decade passed by and I felt exasperated with this never ending bride hunt, given the umpteen idiosyncrasies of various 'would-be's' and their families.

My mother passed away leaving me alone to face the challenges of life and mind.

Her absence made me realise the importance of an ideal life partner.

I wanted a girl who was sensible, sweet and smart.

I wasn't a romantic in the Bollywood sense of the word, so I detested every attempt to woe me with cinematic submission.

I knew an overdose of ‘head over heels’ attitude would kill the human bond in no time.

All it took was a chance visit to Shubrodev, a bosom friend from school.

That July afternoon set the search right.

When his mom whom, I addressed 'Kakima' (meaning aunty in Bengali) asked me about my marriage negotiations, I shrugged and said ‘nowhere in sight as of now’.

Determined to get me hitched Shubhro's family took it upon themselves to do what my parents had left undone.

They quickly registered me on a matrimony website (the only one my mom had missed) with subsequent rundown of the proposals that came by my friend and his family.

In a few days we set off for an unheard of place to meet my chosen one to whom Shubhro described me as 'someone who was rare to find.'

Little did we know that the description would apply more for Dipanwita than me.

My seasoned eyes could easily pick up the traits I was looking for in my wife.

In a couple of months time we garlanded each other looking like 'Lakshmi Narayan' as coined by Disha, my sister and my dear friend Shubhro’s wife.

The popular Bollywood notion --someone somewhere is made for you -- proved true in my case.
