Breakfast recipe with oats

Here are two healthy options to kick-start your day the healthy way.

Oats Theplas

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander, chopped
  • 2 to 3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • Few fresh methi leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tbsp oil

Method

  • Grind the oats into fine flour.
  • Boil 3/4 cup water. Add salt, coriander, chillies, methi leaves.
  • Add oats atta stirring continuously till you get dough-like consistency. It has to be little hard as we have to roll it into theplas.
  • Allow the mixture to cool.
  • Apply a little oil and knead it into dough.
  • Make small balls and roll each like a chapati.
  • Heat a non-stick flat pan/ tawa. Place the thepla and cook on both sides.
  • You can use oil if necessary.
  • Serve hot with sauce or chutney.

Masala oats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium sized tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 to 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Few curry leaves (optional)
  • 1/2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1cup water

Method

  • Soak oats in water for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds.
  • When the seeds cackle, add curry leaves and green chillies.
  • Add the chopped onions. Fry till translucent.
  • Add tomatoes. Cook till soft and then add soaked oats. Mix well and add a cup of water.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves and let it simmer for a few minutes.
  • Serve hot.
