India's first teaching programme in Citizen Journalism, a certificate course launched by the JM Foundation for Excellence in Journalism, will be held in Goa from November 12 to November 14, 2010.
It will be held at the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers (IFB), Altinho, Panaji, Goa.
Eligibility
There is no age barrier, nor any qualification or language barrier to register for the course.
Course details
There will be three sessions every day, concluding on Sunday afternoon. The course will cover aspects like understanding news, verifying, laws that impact news gathering (Civic, Police, Consumer and Human Rights) and the Right to Information and Press Laws.
Participtants would also be taught basic writing, editing and technology skills which will help write news stories and upload on the website.
At the end of the course, participants would get a certificate, an email id (first name.last name@citizenjournalist.com.
They would also get access to www.citizensreport.in, a web platform specially created for this purpose where their work will get displayed.
This website was inaugurated by Justice (retd) B N Srikrishna, during the convocation of the first batch of CJs, on October 2, in Mumbai.
Senior journalists, Aloke Thaore and Shishir Joshi, founders of the JM Foundation for Excellence in Journalism will be the course coordinators, along with veteran Goa journalist Frederick Noronha. Eminent experts from Goa will also be involved in conducting some of the sessions.
How to apply?
To register, participants have to:
1. Email Name, Contact Details and CV to citizenjournalism@journalism.org.in
2. Send a draft or cheque of Rs 3,000 favouring "JM Foundation for Excellence in Journalism" along with a hard copy of the CV to 302 Shubham Centre "A" CHSL, Cardinal Gracias Road, Chakala, Andheri (East), Mumbai 400 099.
College students can avail of a 50 percent discount. They need to send a photocopy of their present identity copy along with their CV and a draft of Rs 1,500 for the same. The fee is inclusive of participation, reading material and food on all three days.
The last date for registration is October 25, 2010.
