What: The Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram invites applications for admission to its full-time residential programme leading to MPhil in Applied Economics of the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

  • This research-based programme follows an inter-disciplinary approach and will commence on August 3, 2009.
  • The Programme has two-semester course-work and a dissertation. The coursework, in quantitative techniques, economic theory and Indian economic issues, has electives facilitating diverse research interests.
  • Candidates can choose to be considered for provisional enrolment for PhD in Economics, either after the coursework or the full programme, if meeting the requirements.

Eligibility criteria

  • Master's in Economics with more than 50 per cent marks or with more than 55 per cent marks in other Social Sciences/ Humanities/ Law or with over 60 per cent in Sciences/ Technology /Life Sciences
  • Those awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply.
  • SC, ST & PH candidates eligible irrespective of percentage of marks. Selection is based on Academic Record, Research Proposal and Interview.
  • Statutory reservation for SC, ST & PH (more than 40 per cent disability) candidates. All candidates will be provided with CDS MPhil Fellowships (@ Rs 3000 per month). Candidates can avail of UGC JRF. Journalists can seek the JET fellowship to undergo the coursework or the full Programme
