Tokens for the pious

We Indians certainly adore our thousand and one deities, gods and goddesses. An idol is always welcome at home, be it Ganesha, Durga or Saraswati -- they're all considered a good omen, particularly if you receive them on auspicious days. So you really can't go wrong with presenting an idol to anybody.

If you have a really long list of people to gift things to, you can economise by sending out little silver coins instead, with deities engraved into them. These are available at practically every Indian jewellery store.
