Young upcoming designers from the GenNext category of the LFW participated in a competition for a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000; the winner will also get to showcase his/ her collection at the next Fashion Week later in the year. Check it out!
Since skincare giant Lakme has just launched a new range of beauty products, 'Pure Defense', to help women combat the effects of pollution, the theme for participating GenNext designers was clothing that represented the fight against pollution. Item hottie and Lakme spokesperson Yana Gupta compered at the showing and introduced both the designs and designers.
Both sides of the coin
First on stage were designer duo Jasleen Kaur and Jenjum Gadi, who presented both sides of pollution -- a jacket made up of plastic bags and drinking straws, to signify the necessary pollutant evils we rely on today and a pair of organic fabric pants.
Resist, restore and rejuvenate
Next up was Ngairangbam Sailex, whose inspiration was the antipoxidants that defend against pollution -- the panelling, quilting and pleating on the ensemble were representative of resistance, restoration and rejuvenation of the world. The black lines, in contrast, represent the pollutants that are affecting it.
Clean green
Abhishek Byas' inspiration for the competition were the trees and topography of nature; he used actual leaves and dry grass on parts of his creation to signify the bond between nature and man.
