Biking to Raigad Fort

We also visited the Bazaarpeth, the place that must have been the market area during that time.

At this point our guide decided it was time for her leave. She gladly accepted the Rs 200 we gave her.

We then went to the samadhi (tomb) of Shivaji. We also saw a dog's samadhi here. A closer look told us that it was the tomb of Shivaji's loyal dog, Waghya.

Legend has it that the dog jumped into the pyre of Shivaji when he saw his master's body burning and died too.

Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

We rested for a while near the samadhi then headed to the Takmaktok. The view from here is stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed the cool breeze even though it was about 3.30 pm and very hot.

Soon it was time to leave.

On our way out we stopped at Jagdireshwar temple before setting out for the base of the ropeway.

People who are too lazy or unable to trek up to the fort take the ropeway. It takes four minutes to reach the top on the ropeway and one hour to trek up!

We had lunch at about 4.15 pm at the base. The bike ride back home was a fast one since night had fallen.

When the odometer hit 30,230 km we reached Pune.

I can vouch for the 340 km of pure fun we had with a little bit of history thrown in.

I plan to visit Raigad again and explore the remaining parts of this huge 100 square acre cliffhanger fort!
