I take the opportunity to stare, and realise that the lithe supermodel's been sitting in front of me, constantly gorging on potato chips and juice. Moni smiles. "I eat everything, and I haven't worked out since January. I just realised that the other day, and it's started to show," she says, sounding most inaccurate.
Women have reason to be jealous, as Monikangana's high metabolism just churns away the weight. She's started to cook, experiments a lot, yet remains steadily in shape. "It's lucky, I guess. But then we each have our own advantages."
Successful models in India are always asked about entering the movies, and Monikangana's interested though not ready to jump in just yet. "The film thing is big money," she says, talking about how a top actress can buy a lavish Mumbai flat with just one movie, while it would take a model a few years to make that much.
"Then again, there's this whole idea of models not being good actresses, so one has to make the right decisions. I do have a couple of interesting cameos lined up, and you'll be seeing me on screen soon." She isn't averse to a fun cameo or an item-number, but says she's taking her time deciding which to do.
"I was seeing someone who was in Bollywood," Monikangana says casually, "so I've seen that side of Bombay, the glitz, the glamour." She's been a party girl, but is somewhat tired of that now. Socially now I just like to chill. Most of my friends are people I've known for a very long time, school and college friends. They're not really from the industry, and they're who I enjoy hanging with the most."
Right now, Monikangana is enjoying ramping it up and giving the photoshoots her all – "photoshoots are amazing but there's nothing quite like the rush of walking the ramp" -- but currently lies in wait of a visa. For New York. For further supermodel dreams.
