All visitors to the Corbett National Park have to obtain permits from the park's administration centre at Ramnagar. We got our permits and asked about a safari and accommodation inside the park. We were lucky again, because it usually takes 20 days of advance booking to get a room there.
We got the more expensive Gairal, an old bungalow by the Ramganga river. It set us back by Rs 4,100 for a day, food extra!
At Ramnagar we hired a Gypsy for our two-day stay. Dhangarhi Gate, the entrance to the main camp of Dhikala, is 18 km from Ramnagar. The drive was breathtaking -- tall trees, fresh air, clean, smooth roads and no sign of pollution. We were all quite fascinated with the beautiful weather and landscape.
At the gate we were given a sack -- we had to pay for it -- to dump plastic bags. We were asked not litter the park. There is a souvenir shop here where you can buy T-shirts, wooden artifacts, some natural cosmetics, etc.
