In the next academic year, your college fees could double.

Or even triple.

Based on the recommendation of the National Knowledge Commission, the Planning Commission may suggest an increase in fees for higher education to Finance Minister P Chidambaram. This is expected to happen before Budget 2007.

According to Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the present fee covers just five percent of the cost of education. With the increase in the education fee, they expect to cover 15 to 20 per cent of the cost.

What do you think?

Are you willing to pay more for your degree? For your specialisation in management or engineering? For your medical degree? For a doctorate?

Do you feel this suggested hike in education fees is justified? Or do you think it will put graduate and post-graduate education out of the reach of many?

We want to hear your views.
