The Queen of Hill Stations

Mussoorie was popular with all manner of Europeans who arrived in India in those days.

The names of its cottages and mansions trip off your tongue like poetry -- Tara Hall, Shamrock, Tipperary, Killarney, Connaught Castle, Grey Castle, Castle Hill, Kenilworth, Ivanhoe, Woodstock (which became the American mission school), Rokeby, Waverly, The Monastery, Abbotsford (in memory of Sir Walter Scott), Charleville Hall, Bleak House, Glen Villa.

Many of these Europeans died right here and are buried at the cemetery (pictured) on Camel's Back road. It is off limits to the public unless you have written permission.
