A baby boom?

Specialising in children's photography may be a niche field today but Ankur thinks the demand is rising.

He says, "Parents are becoming more open to the idea, and of course they always want their kids photographed, they just need to know you are the best man to do the job."

Ankur sounds optimistic about advertising agencies opening up to the idea of baby photography. "Agencies today appreciate specialisation. It takes an experienced photographer to handle and tackle babies. I guess agencies are beginning to understand that."

"Youngsters who are keen on making a career in baby photography need to know that it is no cakewalk. Low awareness brings in mistrust amongst parents. Also advertising costs cannot be borne by a struggler, so he will have to rely on word-of-mouth publicity. As for the art and craft of it, it is always good to have your pictures critiqued by professionals who can guide you technically and enhance your creativity too."

Humble beginnings don't always signify humble ends. In this age of specialisation, it's not improbable that this profession may be tomorrow's highlight. So place your bets appropriately.
