Live-in or give in?

Why do some couples prefer to live-in rather than give in to marriage?

"We don't need paperwork to be committed. The legal sanction of marriage is not important to us, 'personally', 'emotionally or 'mentally'," says Luke Kenny, Head, Music Programming and MARS, Channel V, who has been living-in for the past 10 years.

"But if the situation arises where we 'do' require paperwork, we 'could' get married," he adds.

Sreeram*, a consultant with a leading portal, adds, "The legal sanction of marriage matters only when one needs to migrate abroad or something. If the morals are in place, and the minds meet, one doesn't need marriage."

However, parental pressure led Sreeram and Revati* into marriage after they had lived-in for three years.
