Some Like It Hot (1959)
Set in Chicago during the Prohibition, two skirt-chasing musicians, Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon), inadvertently witness the St Valentine's Day Massacre. To escape the wrath of gangster Spats Colombo (George Raft), the boys, in drag, join an all-woman band headed for Florida.
Their adventures make this film a joy ride. They vie for the attention of lead singer Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), who is on the lookout for a millionaire to marry, and Jerry gets proposals from the most unexpected quarters, and with Jerry getting proposals from the most unexpected quarters, make this film a fun joy ride.
Supported, of course, by a brilliant script by director Billy Wilder and I A L Diamond that slyly blended in serious issues like alcoholism, unemployment and murder.
